“Do you know what I’ve done for you? You call me ‘Teacher’, and ‘Lord’, and you speak correctly, because I am. If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you too must wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example: Just as I have done, you must do also.” (John 13.12-15)
To be a great teacher, is to follow the example of the Great Teacher Himself. To walk in the steps of the One who demonstrated His Greatness by first washing the feet of another. He did not dominate His authority in His leadership, but extended His compassion in His service. He did not demand that His students wash His feet, but rather knelt beside those beneath Him, with a towel and ceramic pot of water. In this place, He taught them what is most important. A heart of love and a will of mercy. Teaching not only with lips, but with action. That the two would align perfectly. To put in practice what is preached. By this, we truly learn.
