Eden retold.

An ancient story begins again.

Not Consumed.

And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed… Exodus 3.2-5.

It is the presence of God that can make something special. One bush or two, and a thousand others like them. But, in the palms of the divine. It’s magic.
A shrub in a middle eastern desert that burns with an eternal flame. And the bush is not consumed. Now, that is not extraordinary. It’s destiny.
God makes majesty from the mundane.

As back then. Still today. We’ve walked the streets in those same sandals, and too often, are met with the ordinary. Our busyness dulls our awareness of what could be sacred.
A bush on fire that burns, yet is not burned. The Divine sat in watch to wait, for when Moses would “turn aside to see”. And when he finally turned, the beauty of another world consumed him, and purpose led him on another path.

Perhaps, like Moses, you may just need to be reminded that where you are feeling the heat of the flames today, you will not be consumed. You may even find the traces of majesty in the ash heap. Perhaps, an extraordinary God has been watching and waiting in an ordinary place.
May the path of heaven meet you on the dusty streets home. Maybe not as you planned or expected, but marked with purpose. And you will say. The fire has burned, but I am not consumed.
